HOW TO SELL YOUR
CLOTHES IN A MARTA STORE
Rent a rack in Luzern or Zurich and let customers shop from it.
Book a space
You can reserve a rack conveniently online. To do so, create a customer account at your favourite store. We also accept reservations by phone or directly in store.
How long should I rent?
Our recommendation for getting started: 8–12 selling days. This duration is ideal for getting a first feel for how your items are received by shoppers. You have enough time to achieve good sales without your risk being too high if the numbers don't add up right away.
What does it cost?
The daily rental for a rack is between 10 and 20 CHF. The exact price depends on the size of the rack, its location, and popularity. After signing up, you'll find all available racks with prices in the reservation system. You pay the rack rental on check-in day in store. For all items sold, you receive 80% of the selling price you set.
Sharing a rack with a friend
No problem! One person makes the reservation. Afterwards, both of you create a separate product list in your own account. This way you keep track and can follow your own sales independently of each other online.
Preparation
Sort through your things at home and create a product list in your customer account. You decide what you want to sell and at what price. Things other than clothes can also be sold. You can attach labels at home — pick up a tagging gun and price tags from the store before your reservation starts.
Or take care of everything at check-in in store.
Check-in
Simply come in with your items on the first day of your rental during opening hours. We provide everything you need in store to set up your rack (e.g. clothes hangers). For first-timers, check-in typically takes around 1.5 hours. Payment of the rental fee takes place at check-in.
Restocking your rack
You can bring new stock, swap items, and adjust prices at any time during your rental period.
Check-out
Come in on the last day of your rental at least one hour before closing to take your remaining items. By arrangement, you can also check out the following morning when the store opens — please get in touch with us beforehand. If you no longer want to keep your items, you can donate them to MARTA.
Your earnings
MARTA pays out 80% of your total sales in cash at check-out, or transfers the amount directly to your bank account.
Tips for great sales
- Clean, washed, fresh-smelling, and in working order.
- Be realistic with your pricing. 20–30% of the original price is a good benchmark.
- Brands are great, but no guarantee of good sales. Current pieces from H&M, ZARA, COS and similar sell well secondhand too — they just need to feel current.
- We focus on wearable everyday fashion. That said, shoppers always enjoy unique finds or quality pieces, as long as the price is right.
- Be prepared for things you love to not sell, and for things you were unsure about to fly off the rack. This happens to the biggest fashion companies too.
- If you want high revenue, your items need a high total value. Look at the ratio between your rack rental cost and the value of your goods. Not everything will sell — expect maybe a third to at most two thirds.
- No matter how good our tips are, sometimes it goes well, sometimes less so. Take it easy — and see your contribution to sustainability as valuable in its own right.
Important
- The contract for renting a rack is between MARTA and the seller.
- The contract for the sale of goods is between the seller and the buyer — not between MARTA and the buyer.
- An official photo ID must be presented to sign the rental agreement and to receive sales proceeds.
- MARTA reserves the right to exclude items from sale that, in MARTA's view, do not fit the concept.
- If items are not collected on time, the seller continues to be charged the booked daily rate until collection. Items remain on the rack only until the next reservation begins. If MARTA has to clear the rack, 2 additional days will be charged.
- If sellers do not collect their items, these become MARTA's property without further written agreement 2 weeks after the end of the rental period.
- No counterfeit branded goods — even if they were a gift or a holiday bargain. Reselling fakes is a criminal offence, even if labelled as fake or replica. If in doubt, take it back home.
- If sellers do not comply with the rules set out here, MARTA may terminate the contract at any time. The rental fee paid will not be refunded.
- Liability and risk: We accept no liability for damaged or missing items. It is entirely possible that items are missing at check-out for various reasons. We cannot guarantee 100% security. Thank you for your understanding.
